DAY ONE - Shopping for materials

Hello all,

So Day one included a few lectures and mostly traipsing around Leeds city center trying to find the cheapest white t-shirt. I wish I wasn't in competition with the other candidates and then maybe we could get a great deal on a job lot!

I'm really excited about how the campaign materials are looking so far-I have John T to thank for the brilliant designs. Today I got the t-shirts, posters and badges made so tomorrow's challenge is working out how many flyers I can get for my remaining budget.

Tonight I'm going to be painting t-shirts, a sheet and some cardboard. I'm thinking of making a sandwich board in style of those young boys who shout "extra extra read all about it", where are they now? Maybe Leeds Student could hire one?

I've found, from my LUU Film Festival showing and from speaking to people, that I'm developing my ideas in my manifesto and have a few new ones that I would put into practice if elected. The first is that Leeds Student editor and student need ID cards. I've been to too many events now where I have been understandably questioned about my identity and have had no means of proving it. The second is that students need to know about how to join to National Union of Journalists. I have arranged for the journalist who spoke in the film festival to come and do a workshop with any students interested in the media and he will also explain what is currently going on in the NUJ and how we can all become student members.

Well there we go for my first post!

Thanks for your support so far.

Virginia

P.S NB It is not me singing on the campaign songs but the are courtesy of Holly and Co. The lyrics will be up here as soon as they give them back to me, obviously I don't want to get their well-crafted words wrong!
